The Diner features bold southern and southwestern flavors, striving to make the ordinary extraordinary, while offering up creative Chef Specials in harmony with savory "street cuisine". The Rock&Roll Diner was founded on the principles of classic cuisine training fused with modern tastes and local flair.

Charlie Hamill is a veteran guitarist/singer/songwriter hailing from Roanoke, Virginia. Starting out in Roanoke at the legendary Iroquois Club with his band Full Tilt during the late 80s, Hamill began his journey as a musician and record producer, living in Charlotte, Orlando and Austin, Texas, and then returning to Roanoke in the late 90s. It was in Austin that he began to split time between his six string and a sauté pan, working long days the now famous Magnolia Café on South Congress. Hamill would then transition, like many of his peers, into show mode at night with his bands Romeo Delight and the Charlie Hamill Group on 6th Street and all over Austin.
After returning to his hometown of Roanoke in ‘97, Hamill continued his music career in the form of performing and recording his music as well as hundreds of other local and regional bands in his studio, Dynamic Sound. In addition to doing some Chef work at local favorite Montano’s International Gourmet, Hamill also worked on air at 96.3 WROV FM. His mainstay, however, would be as a co-founder and Executive Director a non-profit music program for youth called the Downtown Music Lab. After 9 years at the Music Lab, Hamill retired from the non-profit world in 2008 and decided to take his culinary hobby up a notch by enrolling in Culinary School at Virginia Western. While in school Hamill formed Rock&Roll Catering and did some Chef work at Martin’s Downtown Bar and Grill. Upon graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2012, Hamill shelved his plans to open a brick and mortar restaurant and decided to hit the road with the tunes and the saute pan..... and opened the Rock&Roll Diner Food Truck. From 2012-2017 the truck traveled all over VA, WVA and NC, serving up bold southern and southwestern flavors, and garnering some awards along the way,including Best Food Truck 4 years in a row in the Roanoker Magazine, as well as 1st Place in the Virginia Food Truck Battle in 2016. Many other awards would follow at Burger Fest and BBQ fests.
In 2017 Hamill decided to dig in with a brick and mortar after all, by opening a restaurant under the same name at 2406 Franklin Rd in Roanoke VA. On September 5th, the doors opened and customers began enjoying a more personal experience, along with beer, wine and live music on the outdoor patio.
